I just found out about this and gotta say I am a bit excited.
I'm at work right now so I can't download the client and test this out. Is this thing still alive?!

Still alive? Well, it's actually not been born yet. That's a horrible analogy. The developers are working really hard on the code still, there's not much for the players to do except run around and test what they've got so far. There's not much that's really playable /yet/. Unfortunately it will be a wait as this is a labor of love done in people's free time. But I'm hoping it'll be worth the wait when we have a playable game!

Great to hear the wheels are still rolling. I just created an account today and had my first run thru Halgarad in years!

Can't wait to craft again, do harvest runs and such.

It's funny cuz even tho i've been away for almost 5 years, i still remember where all the diff tier res are - it's just stuck in my head. I know exactly where to go :)

This is a sign of a finely crafted game, one that leaves a lasting impression. I'd say this is 90% of why we're doing this. The other 10% is because some silly heads closed the official game ;)

Howdy
I played VG:SoH since before alpha. I was fortunate enough to know a developer (from EQOA days) who worked at Sigil and got me into the Friends and Family testing.
I am so glad to see this happening =D
This web site brings back so many good memories, can't wait until I have a chance to get into the game world!

I just found out about this project. I would love to play this game again. I loved my Bard more than any character and any game ever. Making my whole party invisible, and super fast was great. I am a total noob here, but my understanding is we are just waiting on the developers to finish building the game correct? Thanks.

To "play" officially, yes. It will be quite a while before this very small development team re-writes the entirety of Vanguard.

But in the meanwhile, you can launch your Sunset client (or download the compatible one from the Downloads section) and log in and visit your favorite areas and NPCs. "New Telon" has a population of NPCs scattered around for testing, so the world more or less resembles the VG:SOH you left behind.

Hello! I am a 56 year old Disabled/Retired VET. Just about all that I have to do anymore is play games on my computer. My sons call me a die hard PCMasterracer. I purchased "Vanguard Saga of Heroes" many years ago and have never been able to get it to work. I now have a computer that can run just about any game. I attempted to get the game to load. Fail! Upon searching the web for answers, I came across this site. Thank God!!!!! (and YOU!)
I am still unsure of what I need to do to get things to work. I load the game. It gets to a point where it says that it cannot connect to the server. Then I attempt to download your Loader and Poof It tells me that it cannot find the loader.exe file. I have done dozens of searches. I cannot find this file any where. what am I doing wrong? Please help! Thank you for What you are attempting to do here.

After hearing the announcement of the Vanguard Sunset back in Jan 2014, I got this hair-brained idea that VGOEmulator.net would become the new home of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, here on the planet Earth :)

After seeing so many players signing up to help us, and hearing the stories and deep, mournful sobs of many who love the game, I knew not only would we emulate the game - but we would also emulate 'the community'.

I cannot say I've ever seen that done, though I am sure some have tried. I took it one step further; by resurrecting the entire VGPlayers.com website from the archives on the Wayback Machine - piecing together each bit of information until you see what is wrapping these forums. It's not perfect, but considering the information I had to work with (and all the missing pieces from wayback), I think it's a decent representation.

The next piece was these forums. SOE is removing their Vanguard forums soon as the game sunsets (so I heard) so I opted to start a new one here. Over time, we'll get this site all fixed up nice and pretty, complete with account integration into the game, a special Blog area for tracking player progress in the game; all those cool things that made VGPlayers such fun.

I hope you enjoy this site, because it definitely was a lot of work... and will continue to be for some time.

Thanks for hanging out, and... welcome home :)

Heya, Korogg

What version of the Vanguard client are you running? To get the emulator to work, you'll need a fairly late version of the client. I think the official emu stance is to get the last patched version before sunset. However, I run one that was last patched a few months before sunset. Other patch levels might work, but I don't think anyone really knows which versions work, other than that most late (i.e. spring-summer 2014) versions seem to work.

If you've got a late version, then your problem might be that Sat, June 20th was the day the emu cut over to a new patcher. Also, the login server and the world server were both offline for parts of yesterday.

If you don't have a recent version of the client, check out the Dev Forums link on the left. That's actually where most of the activity is in the emu. There are also links to the latest patcher in the Announcements forum over there.

Hope that helps!
