There are many skills in Vanguard, and learning and developing those skills are the keys to a character's success in the game. How a skill works in game depends on the type of skill. Some skills are triggered automatically, while others are used at the player's discretion. Also, some skills are very general and shared by all, while others are specific to certain races and classes. In general, the more the character attempts to use a skill, the better he or she will become at it.

Skill List

Alteration

Spell school which allows you to cast beneficial spells. When this skill is at its maximum for your level, it grants a 95% chance to hit an average even level opponent with a spell of this school.

Archery

Weapon type, which represents your skill in the use of archery weapons (bows and crossbows). When this skill is at its maximum for your current level, it grants a 95% chance to hit an average even level opponent with a weapon of this type.

Awareness

General state of awareness about events and details in the world around you.

Axe (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with one-handed axes. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Bladed Staff (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with bladed staves. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Block

Your ability to block incoming melee and ranged attacks. Skill controls your maximum innate chance to block.

Bow (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with bows. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Club (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with clubs. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Combat Awareness

State of awareness about events and details that take place during combat.

Conjuration

Spell school which allows you to cast spells which summon. When this skill is at its maximum for your level, it grants a 95% chance to hit an average even level opponent with a spell of this school.

Counterspelling

Ability to interrupt a spell an opponent is currently casting.

Crossbow (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with crossbows. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Dagger and Knife (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with one-handed daggers and knives. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Detection

Your ability to detect hidden (stealthed) opponents in the world.

Dodge

Your ability to dodge incoming melee and ranged attacks. Skill controls your maximum innate chance to dodge.

Dual Wield

A weapon wield type which allows you to equip two weapons at once. One in each hand. (Note: You only receive half of your offhand's "weapon bonus" if any.)

Evocation

Spell school which allows you to cast offensive spells. When this skill is at its maximum for your level, it grants a 95% chance to hit an average even level opponent with a spell of this school.

Fishing

Your skill and ability to fish.

Great Axe (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with two-handed axes. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Great Maul (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with two-handed mauls. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Great Spear (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with two-handed spears. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Greatsword (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with two-handed swords. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Hammer (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with one-handed hammers. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Hand to Hand

Weapon type, which represents your ability to use hand to hand weapons. When this skill is at its maximum for your current level, it grants a 95% chance to hit an average even level opponent with a weapon of this type.

Handwraps (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with handwraps. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Hide

You are able to successfully hide from aggressive opponents.

Kick

Your ability to use kicking abilities effectively.

Knuckles (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with knuckles. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Longsword (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with one-handed long swords. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Mace (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with one-handed maces. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Martial Staff (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with martial staves. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage

Martial Sword (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with martial swords. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage

One-handed Blunt

Weapon type, which represents your skill in the use of one-handed blunt weapons. When this skill is at its maximum for your current level, it grants a 95% chance to hit an average even level opponent with a weapon of this type.

One-handed Piercing

Weapon type, which represents your skill in the use of one-handed piercing weapons. When this skill is at its maximum for your current level, it grants a 95% chance to hit an average even level opponent with a weapon of this type.

One-handed Slashing

Weapon type, which represents your skill in the use of one-handed slashing weapons. When this skill is at its maximum for your current level, it grants a 95% chance to hit an average even level opponent with a weapon of this type.

One-handed Wielding

A weapon wield type which allows you to equip a single weapons in one hand.

Parry

Your ability to parry incoming melee and ranged attacks. Skill controls your maximum innate chance to parry.

Pickpocket

You are able to pickpocket coin and items from humanoid NPCs.

Ranged Wielding

A weapon wield type which allows you to equip a ranged weapon.

Safe Fall

You are able to fall from great heights without taking any damage.

Short Sword (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with one-handed short swords. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Shuriken (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with shuriken weapons. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Sneak

You are able to successfully sneak around aggressive opponents.

Spear and Javelin (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with one-handed spears and javelins. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Spell Identification

You are able to recognize spells being used by opponents.

Staff (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with two-handed stave weapons. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Sword and Shield Wielding

A weapon wield type which allows you to equip a weapon in one hand, and a shield in your other hand.

Tactic Recognition

You are able to recognize attack tactics being used by opponents.

Thrown

Weapon type, which represents your skill in the use of thrown weapons. When this skill is at its maximum for your current level, it grants a 95% chance to hit an average even level opponent with a weapon of this type.

Thrown Axes (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with thrown axe weapons. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Thrown Daggers (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with thrown dagger weapons. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Thrown Hammers (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with thrown hammer weapons. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.

Two-handed Blunt

Weapon type, which represents your skill in the use of two-handed blunt weapons. When this skill is at its maximum for your current level, it grants a 95% chance to hit an average even level opponent with a weapon of this type.

Two-handed Piercing

Weapon type, which represents your skill in the use of two-handed piercing weapons. When this skill is at its maximum for your current level, it grants a 95% chance to hit an average even level opponent with a weapon of this type.

Two-handed Slashing

Weapon type, which represents your skill in the use of two-handed slashing weapons. When this skill is at its maximum for your current level, it grants a 95% chance to hit an average even level opponent with a weapon of this type.

Two-handed Wielding

A weapon wield type which allows you to equip a two-handed weapons in both hands.

Ulak and Claws (Specialization)

Weapon specialization representing your skill with one-handed spears and javelins. When this skill is at it's maximum for your level, it grants a 10% bonus to melee damage.
