Welcome kinsmen, to the frost-driven stronghold of Derogar's Post.
Just north of the snowy peaks from the city of Halgarad, you will begin your training in service to the Jarl and the Warchief, leaders of the varanjar. Here, where the trees touch the sky and the ancient mountains stare down upon you, the twin leaders of your people have requested your help in securing the future of the varanjar.
Descended from the varansul people and cousin to the faraway varanthari horsemen of Qalia, you will begin slowly, learning both the ways of your people and the customs of our brothers-in-arms the lesser giants. You begin at the verge of a new dawn for the varanjar; leaving the ways of the nomad behind, the newly-formed city of Halgarad claims leadership over the combined clans of all varanjar.
However, many challenges lie ahead for your people. The hunts are producing little food and the Bloodhowler vulmane continually impede the caravan routes. More concerning than this, the Broken Fang gnolls have driven your lesser giant allies from the Vault of Heroes and they now seek refuge behind our walls.
But take heart! These are but small troubles for the combined heroes that once drove the orc and goblin hordes from Thestra. If the might of Halgar and your people could turn the tide of that dreadful war, these issues will be but trifles.

The Varanjar, or barbarians as they are called by many, are closely related to the humans of Thestra. While larger and stronger than most humans, their features remain similar. It is often said that hundreds of years ago the Varanjar were themselves humans who left their brethren for a more simple life in the mountains of the eastern Thestra. The validity of that claim has yet to be established and while physically, they may most closely resemble the humans it is the lesser giants, with whom they share a home in the mountain village of Halgarad, that they have found a common interest. They are hard working, sturdy and brave. They live their lives close to the land and live in a predominantly tribal society.

Varanjar History & Lore
